Graduation Marks Turning Point in Zambian Prison
Summary adapted from
Apostle Andrew Mwaba’s report
On April 4, 2025, a powerful wave of hope swept through Zambia’s correctional facilities
as 78 inmates—34 earning Certificates and 44 earning Diplomas—proudly graduated
from the Joshua Nations biblical training program. The event marked not only a
significant academic milestone but also a spiritual turning point for those who have
chosen a path of transformation and purpose, even while behind bars.
A Ceremony Filled with Dignity and Joy
The graduation ceremony, hosted within the correctional system, drew esteemed guests
and prison leadership. Among them was Mr. Mbewe, Regional Command Officer for
Prisons, who served as Guest of Honour. His words of encouragement and endorsement
of the program added weight and meaning to the celebration. Also in attendance were
the Officers-in-Charge from the Female Maximum Facility, Maximum Male Facility, and
Medium Male Facility, underscoring the widespread institutional support for this
redemptive work.
The Chaplain General also made a notable appearance. In a moving address, he praised
the impact of the Joshua Nations curriculum and passionately appealed for the program’s
expansion into additional facilities. His message served as a rallying cry for continued
partnership and investment in the lives of incarcerated individuals seeking redemption
through biblical education.
A Community United in Celebration
The atmosphere was vibrant and celebratory. Graduates and fellow inmates offered
performances—songs, dances, and heartfelt testimonies that reflected their joy and
gratitude. The chaplains from all three facilities spoke with genuine appreciation for the
support they’ve received, highlighting how the certificates and mentorship have brought
tangible hope and dignity to their prison communities.
Following the ceremony, a celebratory meal was shared among all attendees. Over 210
individuals—including staff, graduates, and inmates—were served a meal that
symbolized unity and the shared joy of the occasion.
Program Support and Budget Notes
The graduation event was made possible through generous support and meticulous
planning. While the initial funds received totaled K30,510 (approximately $1,100), actual
expenses came to K38,500 (approximately $1,393.88). The overage was due to
unanticipated costs such as additional catering needs, transport logistics, and gown
rentals for graduates. Despite these challenges, the team ensured that every participant
felt honored and celebrated.
Looking Forward
This graduation is more than an event—it is a testimony to the power of hope, faith, and
education to transform even the most difficult circumstances. Apostle Andrew Mwaba,
Joshua Nations Zambian Prisons Director, expressed his deepest thanks to the Joshua
Nations Executive Team for their unwavering commitment to this life-changing ministry.
“Your investment is bringing hope, transformation, and purpose to many lives behind
bars,” he shared. “May the Lord continue to strengthen and prosper this great work.”
As Joshua Nations continues to disciple the nations—including those within prison walls—
this event stands as a reminder that the Gospel knows no bounds, and that the seeds
planted today will bear fruit for generations to come.
